<image:title>Issues - An equitable civil justice system is a fundamental human right. In order to maximize social well-being, the administration of justice must also be efficient and free from abuse. New York’s civil justice system is ever-evolving, and a lack of academic research limits the objective understanding the impacts of this evolutionary process. NYCJI works to remedy this problem by conducting research on broad range of issues that impact New York’s civil justice system, including: Litigation trends Social and economic costs of civil litigation Equal access to the civil justice system Impacts of proposed changes to the civil justice system</image:title>

<image:title>Research - A review of open-source media and state and federal case filings revealed a disturbing pattern of exploitation involving Third-Party Litigation Funding (“TPLF”) in which immigrants and economically marginalized individuals are allegedly manipulated into participating in fraudulent civil litigation schemes. Originally conceived as a financial tool to provide equal access to justice, TPLF has become a mechanism that enables systemic abuse, criminal activity, and widespread financial gain for bad actors operating within and around the civil justice system.</image:title>
